A presente invenção descreve um ácido poliidroxicarboxilico que tem distribuição de massa molar bimodal ou multimodal, um processo para a preparação deste, o uso de um diol aromático que tem um único anel de benzeno para a preparação de ácido poilidroxicarboxílico, em particular ácido poliidroxicarboxílico que tem distribuição de massa molar bimodal ou muItimodal, como também um método de preparar mercadorias moldadas por injeção ou película assoprada, misturas de polímero, materiais de compósito ou materiais de nanocompósito, usando o referido ácido poliidroxicarboxílico.
