A substância é encapsulada em um encapsulante solúvel em água. o filme desintegra-se quando colocado na superfície de certos substratos onde ele libera a substância ao ambiente local. os filmes podem carregar medicamentos, substâncias que fornecem sabor, temperos, odores e etc.
