A presente divulgação refere-se a reagentes de interferência de RNA (RNAi), tais como microRNA hairpin curto (shmiR) e RNA hairpin curto (shRNA), para o tratamento da distrofia muscular oculofaríngea (OPMD), composições compreendendo os mesmos, e seu uso para tratar indivíduos que sofrem de OPMD ou que sejam geneticamente predispostos à mesma.
