É descrito um material compreendendo uma base formada substancialmente por fibras de celulose sobre as quais é absorvida uma composição compreedendo um ou mais ácidos carboxílicos alifáticos tendo cadeias de hidrocarbonetos consistindo de 8 a 20 átomos de carbono, e um material de filtro compreendendo uma matriz na qual está dispersada uma formulação granular deste material. O material pode ser usado para adsorver poluentes de hidrocarbonetos, tais como derramamentos de óleo, e o material de filtro pode ser usado para absorver tais poluentes de uma corrente de fluido.
