Um método para converter material de partida em olefinas, compreendendo contatar o material de partida com catalisador de peneira molecular não-zeolítica de poro pequeno sob condições eficazes para produzir olefinas, onde a peneira molecular não-zeolítica foi preparada in situ ou modificada após síntese por incorporação, usando-se um composto de metal alcalino-terroso, onde o íon de metal alcalino-terroso é selecionado do grupo consistindo de estrônico, cálcio, bário, e suas misturas.
