Compostos 5-poli ciclil pirimidina 4-substituídos nos quais o substituinte 5 é policíclico e está ligado à metade pirimidina através de um átomo de carbonoalifático, tal como 5-(2,2-dimetil indan-1-il)-4-metil tio pirimidina, foram preparados e verificados possuírem excelente atividade herbicida. Os compostos são especialmente úteis para o controle de vegetação indesejada em arrozal.
