Em uma modalidade, a restrição é chapeada com um material, tal como ouro ou tântalo, tendo um elevado peso atômico. O chapeamento pode cobrir a restrição inteira ou apenas uma sua porção. Em uma segunda modalidade, as extremidades da restrição incluem protuberâncias tendo metal suficiente nas mesmas para torná-las visíveis em raio-X.
