Pela presente é descrito um processo fornecido para efetuar uma mudança de cor na madeira ou em um artigo que imita a madeira, e o artigo preparado por esse meio. O processo inclui as etapas de aplicação a um artigo de madeira com acabamento de nitrocelulose uma composição que inclua um corante ou pigmento à base d'água e um verniz à base d'água ou laca sobre o revestimento de nitrocelulose, sem separar física ou quimicamente a camada de nitrocelulose. Em uma modalidade alternativa, um artigo que imita a madeira recebe novo acabamento pela aplicação de corante ou pigmento a base d'água e um verniz à base d'água ou laca a sua superfície.
