Abstract
PLANTAS TRANSGÃNICAS COM CARACTERÃSTICAS DE CRESCIMENTO AUMENTADAS.A invenção refere-se a plantas transgênicas que apresentam taxas de crescimento dramaticamente aumentadas, rendimentos maiores de semente e fruta/vagem, florescência precoce e mais produtiva, utilização de nitrogênio mais eficiente, tolerância aumentada a condições elevadas de sal, e rendimentos de biomassa aumenta. Em uma modalidade, plantas transgênicas construÃdas para superexpressar tanto glutamina fenil piruvato transaminase (GPT) como glutamina sintetase (GS) são fornecidas. As plantas transgênicas duplas GPT+GS da invenção apresentam compativelmente caracterÃsticas de crescimento aumentado, com linhagens de geração TO que mostram um aumento em biomassa sobre contrapartes do tipo selvagem entre 50% e 300%. Gerações que resultam de cruzamentos sexuais e/ou selfing têm desempenho ainda melhor com algumas das plantas transgênicas duplas obtendo aumento de biomassa de quatro vezes espantoso em relação a plantas do tipo selvagem.
