MÉTODO PARA PRODUZIR UMA PLANTA TRANSGÊNICA COM TAMANHO E/OU ARQUITETURA DE PORÇÕES AÉREA E NÃO-AÉREA ALTERADO, ESTRUTURA DO XILEMA OU COMPOSIÇÃO QUÍMICA ALTERADO, OU COMBINAÇÃO DESSAS CARACTERÍSTICAS, PLANTA OU PARTE DE PLANTA, MOLÉCULA DE ÁCIDO NUCLÉICO ISOLADA, VETOR DE EXPRESSÃO E CÉLULA RECOMBINANTE. Polinucleotídeos, construções de DNA e métodos são descritos para a modificação de tamanho, arquitetura de porções aéreas e/ou não aéreas de uma planta assim como a modificação da estrutura e/ou composição química do xilema de uma planta. As plantas são transformadas com um gene que codifica um fator de transcrição ativo pertencente à família KNOX. A superexpressão deste gene no sistema vascular da planta leva ao aumento global de tamanho e arquitetura em ambos os sistemas aéreo e radicular da planta transgênica.
