Ele tem uma fração (por exemplo, metade) da largura padrão ISO, para que uma pluralidade de unidades modulares possa ser unida para formar um contêiner padrão ISO. Duas ou mais unidades modulares podem ser unidas lado a lado e/ou extremidade a extremidade para formar um contêiner de transporte composto, preferivelmente, com características de contêiner de carga ISO.
