A presente invenção refere-se a compostos trans-carotenóides e a sais dos mesmos assim como a composições dos mesmos, processos para a fabricação dos mesmos e usos dos mesmos. Estes compostos são úteis para melhorar a difusividade de oxigênio entre as células vermelhas do sangue e os tecidos do corpo em mamíferos inclusive em seres humanos.
