Um composto compreendendo um sal solúvel em água de fórmula (I) na qual R^ 1^ é um grupo C~ 1~-10~-alquila; ou um grupo C~ 2-10~-alquenila; M é um cátion de valência n, desde que quando R^ 1^ for um grupo pent-2-enila, M será diferente de sódio ou potássio. Estes sais são particularmente adequados para uso em formulações agriculturais. A formulação pode compreender adicionalmente derivados de ácido benzóico e/ou antioxidantes.
