Em um aparelho de formação de imagem, uma "área aplicada com um lubrificante", isto 4, uma área de uma camada de lubrificante que tem uma espessura uniforme é obtida espalhando-se o lubrificante pela lâmina suavizadora de lubrificante. A "área aplicada com um lubrificante" cobre uma "área limpa por uma lâmina de limpeza", isto e, uma porção de contato da lâmina de limpeza com um fotocondutor .
