O invólucro externo pode ser formado de um material resistente a ao impacto não alto, tal como um metal fino ou um material composto. O silencioso pode compreender um elemento separado do amortecedor, que é acoplado ao mesmo, ou é formado como uma parte integral do amortecedor.
