Abstract
"SUPERFÍCIES DE ENGRENAGENS POLIDAS". Uma engrenagem otimamente acabada (12), (14) tem uma rugosidade superficial entre Ra de aproximadamente 5 micro-polegadas até Ra de aproximadamente 10 micro-polegadas. A rugosidade superficial reduzida, quando localizada nos dentes da engrenagem (20), pode reduzir a tensão de contato máxima em mais que cinquenta por cento. Similarmente, a tensão de cisalhamento sub-superficial pode ser reduzida em aproximadamente trinta por cento. A tensão de contato reduzida e a tensão de cisalhamento reduzida resultam de condições de lubrificação melhoradas entre os dentes da engrenagem (20). Rugosidade superficial maior que Ra de 10 micro-polegadas resulta em contato aumentado dos picos de superfície, enquanto rugosidade superficial menor que 3 micro-polegadas é muito lisa para reter lubrificação adequada entre os dentes da engrenagem.
