A invenção refere-se aos compostos indolazepinas tricíclicas úteis como antagonistas receptores de vasopressina, a composições farmacêuticas que compreendem os compostos da presente invenção e a processos para o tratamento de condições que envolvem maior resistência vascular e insuficiência cardíaca que incluem hipertensão, parada cardíaca congestiva, insuficiência cardíaca, vasoespasmo coronariano, isquemia cardíaca, cirrose do fígado, vasoespasmo renal, insuficiência renal, edema cerebral e isquemia, derrame, trombose ou retenção de água em um indivíduo que necessite o mesmo.
