D-chiro-inositol e composição orais correlatas podem ser usados no tratamento de tolerância a glicose anormal e metabolismo e sensibilidade à insulina em mamíferos, e assim ajuda a prevenir a progressão para diabetes tipo 2 resistente a insulina.
