Um politioéter que tem a fórmula : R¹- [-R²-S-CH (CH~ 3~) -S-]~ n~-R²-R¹, onde R¹ denota um grupo tiol, um grupo hidroxila, um grupo amina não substituído, um grupo amina substituído com monoalquila, um radical monovalente substituído com pelo menos um grupo hidroxila, grupo amina não substituído ou grupo amina substituído com monoalquila, ou um grupo que é não reativo na presença de um catalisador ácido, R² denota um radical divalente e n é um número inteiro de 1 a 60. O politioéter é um líquido à temperatura e pressão ambientes.
