A invenção refere-se ao uso de um inibidor esteróide de aromatase para produzir um medicamento formulado para uso tópico, para a prevenção e/ou tratamento de carcinoma mamário. O medicamento de invenção oferece uma maneira de evitar os efeitos secundários associdados com uso sistemático. É portanto possível realizar um tratamento preventivo primário ou ainda um tratamento preventivo secundário depois do aparecimento de um carcinoma mamário.
