A presente invenção diz respeito a processos melhorados para tingir fibras queratinosas especialmente cabelos no couro cabeludo humano usando um processo de oxidação de duas etapas para a oxidação dos precursores de melanina 5,6-di-hidroxiindolina (DHIN), 5,6-di-hidroxiindol (DHI), e derivados destes tais como ácido 5,6-di-hidroxiindol-2-carboxílico (DHICA).
