"MÉTODO DE CODIFICAÇÃO E DECODIFICAÇÃO COM POUCA INTERFERÊNCIA" Um processador de imagem digital adaptativo (22) precede um codificador de MPEG2 (24). O processador recebe um sinal de vídeo de alta definição (1920 por 1080 pixels por imagem) planejado para difusão ou armazenamento, e filtra em banda baixa, de maneira adaptativa, o sinal. O sinal é submetido a filtragem bidimensional de banda baixa (223) para eliminar artefatos de codificação e interferência relacionada. O sinal de vídeo é então horizontalmente amostrado descendentemente (226) para criar um sinal híbrido de resolução inferior (1280 por 1080 pixels por imagem). Um receptor decodifica e descompacta o sinal híbrido. O sinal híbrido é amostrado ascendentemente para sua resolução original usando hardware e software existentes com uma modificação no software.
