Este processo de síntese do ácido 3-mercapto propiônico por reação de adição de H~ 2~S ao ácido acrílico é efetuado na presença de um suporte sólido que possui grupos funcionais básicos de guanidina, desde que estes sejam isentos de hidrogênio diretamente ligado a um átomo de azoto.
