A presente invenção inclui métodos para a prevenção e tratamento de um paciente humano ou animal inferior que apresenta um distúrbio gastrintestinal causado ou mediado por um ou mais helmintos intestinais compreendendo a administração ao paciente de bismuto e um ou mais antimicrobianos. A presente invenção inclui, também, composições compreendendo bismuto e um ou mais antimicrobianos para a prevenção e tratamento de um paciente ou animal inferior que apresenta um distúrbio gastrintestinal causado ou mediado por um ou mais helmintos intestinais.
