Descreva-se um processo para preparar um espinélio de óxido de lítio manganês de fórmula: Li(~ 1+x~)Mn~ 2~O~ 4~ que compreende contactar-se um espenélio de óxido de lítio manganês de fórmula: LiMn~ 2~O~ 4~ com um composto de carboxilato de lítio, a uma temperatura e durante um tempo suficiente para decompor o composto de carboxilato e liberar o lítio para formar o referido espinélio litiado.
