Um processo é descrito que bioconverte indeno em (1s)-amino-(2R)-indanol substâncialmente isento de quaisquer de seus estereoisômeros, pela ação de enzina dioxigenase, seguido por várias etapas químicas, por exemplo cristalização específica quiral, tratamento com ácido forte na presença de acetonitrila.
