Um inibidor de sialidase de fórmula (I) onde as linhas tracejadas d~ 1~ e d~ 2~, X~ 1~, R~ 1~, R~ 2~, R~ 6~, R~ 3~, R~ 4~ e R~ 5~ são conforme descritos no relatório descritivo; ou um sal farmaceuticamente aceitável análogo, ou derivado do inibidor, com a condição que o inibidor não seja HNBA, GBA ou Neu5Ac2en. O inibidor em uma composição com um veículo farmaceuticamente aceitável. Processos de fabricação de uma composição farmacêutica de um veículo aceitável e o inibidor. Processos de inibição de sialidase e processos de tratamento e impedimento de infecção bacterial ou tripanossomal usando o inibidor.
