Refere-se a um sistema constituido por um conjunto variável de aparelhos que utiliza as ondas do mar ou descida das águas de corredeiras de rios, para fazer girar aletas (2) presas a uma correia (1) e transformar este trabalho em movimento circular, que faz mover, em última instância um gerador de eletricidade (7), produzindo energia elétrica (8).
