Compostos da fórmula (I) e seus sais, onde R^ *^, R^ 1^, R^ 2^ R^ 3^, X, Y, Z, W, n e m estõ definidos tal como na reivindicação 1, e especialmente R^ *^ é um equivalente de formila da fórmula CHO, -CH-NR ou CH (X^ 1^R')(X^ 2^R''), são apropriados como herbicidas e reguladores de crescimento de plantas. A preparação dá-se de modo análogo a métodos conhecidos, parcialmente sob uso de novos produtos intermediários da fórmula (XVII), onde U^ *^ significa = NH~ 2~, Cl, amino (subst.).
