Compostos de dara têm atividade imunossupressora e antiinflamatória e são úteis como produtos farmacêuticos, particularmente para o uso como agentes imunosupressores e antiinflamatórios. Compostos de 17alfa damara são novos e estão incluídos per se, por exemplo, o composto da fórmula IC [(17alfa)-23-(E)-darama-20,23-dien-3beta,25-diol] (I) que pode se obtido a partir da farinha dos brotos da palmira, Borassus flabellfier L. Além disso, processos para s síntese deste e outros compostos de damara e seus intermediários são descritos.
