Patente de Invenção: "SULFONAS ATIVAS DE POLI(ETILENO GLICOL) ISOLÁVEIS, SOLÚVEIS EM ÁGUA E HIDROLITICAMENTE ESTÁVEL E POLÍMEROS RELACIONADOS PARA A MODIFICAÇÃO DE SUPERFÍCIES E MOLÉCULAS". Revela-se um derivado de poli(etileno glicol) que é ativado com uma porção sulfona para o acoplamento seletivo a porções tiol sobre moléculas e superfícies. O PEG ativado é solúvel em água, hidroliticamente estável durante períodos prolongados e forma ligações hidroliticamente estáveis com porções tiol. Al ligações geralmente não são reversíveis em ambientes redutores. O derivado de PEG é útil para modificar as características de substâncias, incluindo a modificação de superfícies e moléculas biologicamente ativas para torná-las biocompatíveis. Também são revelados métodos para sintetizar o PEG ativo e para preparar conjugados do PEG ativo e outras substâncias, inclusive substâncias biologicamente ativas.
