Abstract
Um processo para tratamento de material contaminado com elementos tóxicos utiliza fusão do material em um reator de lança de parte superior submersa. O material tem o teor de carbono presente como carbono elementar ou livre. Fusão é conduzida de modo a formar, ou em presença de, uma escória fluida. No curso de fusão, gás contendo oxigênio livre é injetado na escória por injeção de parte superior submersa, para combustão do teor de carbono do material. Elementos tóxicos volatilizáveis são descarregados em gás liberado do reator, enquanto elementos não-volatilizáveis são substancialmente inteiramente incorporados na escória.
