Abstract
Um processo e aparelho é apresentado para determinar o ruído remanente em um suporte magnético (102) por saturação de CC de uma região do mesmo e medição da magnetização de CC remanente. Um transdutor de gravação magnética convencional pode ser usado para determinar o ruído remanente. Após a determinação, o ruído remanente pode então ser digitalizado e gravado sobre o mesmo suporte magnético para desse modo identificar (tirar a impressão digital) do suporte magnético. Esta "impressão digital" pode então ser posteriormente usada para verificar e autenticar (114) o suporte magnético como sendo um original. Desta maneira, qualquer suporte magnético, ou qualquer objeto tendo um suporte magnético associado, pode ser identificado inclusive cartões de crédito, programas de computador, discos compactos (CDs), videofitas, fita-cassete, etc.
