Abstract
É descrita uma lente oftálmica para colocação na superfície anterior do olho. A lente tem, nela impregnada ou aplicado como revestimento em sua superfície, um éster de um álcool alifático poliídrico e um ácido graxo, no qual o resíduo de álcool tem pelo menos um grupo hidroxila. O éster está presente em uma quantidade eficaz para prevenir ou diminuir a liberação de toxinas bacterianas quando a lente é exposta a estas toxinas. A lente é particularmente adequada para uma lente de contato hidrogel macia, e elimina, minimiza ou previne, vantajosamente, ceratite. A ceratite bacteriana é uma infecção da córnea do olho que pode ocorrer durante um uso prolongado de lentes, podendo causar a ulceração da córnea.
