Contaminantes halogenados são decompostos em um fluido e sólido pela reação de tal matriz com um reagente composto por um metal não-alcalino, um polialquilenoglicol/ou Nixolens e um hidróxido/ou alcoolato. Ainda, este reagente combinado com certos carreadores sólidos forma um leito de descontaminação imobilizado para remover continuaminante halogenados de um fluido.
