Expõem-se materiais de espuma polimérica murchada, isto é, não expandida, relativamente finos, que no contacto com fluidos corpóreos aquosos, se expandem e absorvem esses fluidos. Expõe-se igualmente um processo para obter compativelmente esses materiais de espuma polimérica murchada, relativamente finos, pela polimerização de um tipo específico de emulsão de água-em-óleo, comumente conhecida com Emulsões de Alta Fase Interna ou "HIPE".
