A presente invenção se refere a seqüências de DNA purificadas isoladas a partir de milho que podem atuar como promotores específicos de pólen e as quais desempenham uma função na expressão de genes em pólen. A presente invenção se refere também a um processo para conferir especificidade de pólen em genes normalmente não expressos em pólen.
