A presente invenção fornece uma composição oral para enbranquecimento de dentes que compreende uma quantidade inofensiva e eficaz enbranquecedora de ácido peracético dissolvida ou suspensa em um veículo, em que o ácido peracético é gerado dentro do veículo in situ por combinação de água, ácido acetilsalicílico e um percarbonato de metal alcalino solúvel em água.
