Abstract
Um processo para produzir etanol a partir de biomassa de plantas inclui formar um substrato proveniente da biomassa com o substrato incluindo hidrolisados de celulose e hemicelulose. Uma variedade do fermento Brettanomyces custersii (CBS 5512), que tem a capacidade de fermentar a celobiose e a glicose em etanol, é então selecionada e isolada. O substrato é inoculado com este fermento, e o substrato inoculado é então fermentado sob condições favoráveis para a viabilidade das células e conversão dos hidrolisados em etanol.
