Abstract
Uma célula para a fundição de alumínio, que compreende paredes laterais (5) e um fundo (2), definindo um cátodo ativo, um ânodo (3) sobrejacente ao cátodo de fundo (2), parte das paredes laterais (5) sendo cobertas por um material catódico molhado (6), como um contendo TiB~ 2~, de modo que as paredes laterais cobertas tornam-se superfícies catódicas ativas, sobre as quais forma-se um filme de alumínio metálico, para proteger as partes da parede lateral contra o ataque do banho, possibilitando desse modo que a célula opere nas temperaturas desejadas, sem a borda lateral protetora usual de material do eletrólito solidificado.
