Esta Válvula começou a ser idealizada em 1970, pelo requerente: Somente em 1985 teve seu uso clínico com sucesso. É fabricada de plástico especial e silicone, possui um sistema de bombeamentto acionado pelo próprio paciente, cuja finalidade é o alívio dos portadores da ascíte, permitindo uma vida melhor sem o sofrimento das punções aspiradoras do líquido ascítico existente na cavidade abdominal, chamada de paracentese.
