As realizações preferidas reciclam o metanol, convertem o mesmo parcialmente em Gás de síntese, e então também converte este Gás de síntese adicional em álcoois C2+. Geralmente, a invenção apresenta reatores que compreendem catalisadores com capacidade de converter Gás de síntese em álcoois com baixas seletividades em dióxido de carbono e metano, e também apresenta estratégias de processo para separar e reciclar o Gás de síntese não reagido, bem como o metanol produzido pelo catalisador.
