A presente invenção geralmente se refere ao campo de biologia molecular e se relaciona a um método para melhorar várias características de crescimento vegetal modulando expressão em uma planta de um ácido nucleico codificando uma GRP (Proteína Relacionada a Crescimento). A presente invenção também se relaciona a plantas tendo expressão modulada de um ácido nucleico codificando uma GRP, cujas plantas tem características de crescimento melhoradas em relação a correspondentes plantas do tipo selvagem ou outras plantas de controle. A invenção também fornece construções úteis nos métodos da invenção. A GRP pode ser uma das seguintes: Regulador de Produção de Sementes (SYR), FG- GAP, CYP90B, CDC27, fatores de transcrição AT-hook, fatores de transcrição DOF e Inibidores de Quinase Dependentes de Ciclina (CKIs).
