Um copolímero de (i) acrilato de alquila ou metacrilato de alquila e (ii) um acrilato de hidróxialquila ou metacrilato de hidróxialquila é usado como um colólde de proteção secundário na polimerizaçào em suspensão do monômero de cloreto de vinha, O grupo alquila do acrilato de alquila ou metacrilato de alquila é preferivelmente um grupo 2-etilhexila. O grupo hidróxialquila do acrilato de hidróxialquila ou metacrilato de hidróxialquila é preferivelmente um grupo hidroxietila.
