A invenção atual apresenta um processo para a produção de 2-cloro-4-nitroimidazol representada pela fórmula (1): compreendendo uma reação de composto 1-alcoxialquil-2-bromo-4nitroimidazol representado pela fórmula geral (7): onde R1 representa um grupo alquila inferior, e n representa um número inteiro de 1 a 3, com cloreto de hidrogênio.
