Todas as peças caracterizam-se por serem poliedros obtidos através de diferentes combinações de cortes de um cubo, cortes estes sempre feitos por seus planos diagonais. Entenda-se o quebra-cabeças como um , em que o mesmo cubo também pode ser obtido através de diversas outras combinações de união das peças citadas acima.
