A invenção fornece métodos, produtos e kits de cuidados orais para tratamento do tecido bucal de um animal; em específico, a invenção fornece métodos, produtos e kits de cuidados orais que usam ou compreendem um agente quelante de poliamina de não-peptídeo, mais preferivelmente trientina, ou um sal fisiologicamente aceitável da mesma, que possa inibir a liberação de citocinas pró-inflamatórias, em específico a interleucina 8, das células localizadas nos tecidos da boca e possa reduzir os danos causados por espécies de oxigênio reativo (ROS) a tais tecidos.
