A presente invenção se refere ao método de colocação de um grupo sulfona ou sulfonamida orto a um fenol em uma substância de droga a fim de aumentar a estabilidade metabólica e a meia-vida do composto, enquanto mantém-se a acidez do fenol. Métodos de síntese de compostos contendo fenol são também descritos.
