"PREPARAÇÃO DE ÁCIDOS (R)-2-ALQUIL-3-FENILPROPIÔNICOS". Compostos de fórmula (I), em que R~ 1~, e R~ 2~ são, independentemente um do outro, H, C~ 1~-C~ 6~, alquila, C~ 1~-C~ 6~ halogenoalquila, C~ 1~-C~ 6~ alcóxi, C~ 1~C~ 6~ alcóxi-C~ 1~-C~ 6~, alquila, ou C~ 1~-C~ 6~ alcóxi-C~ 1~-C~ 6~ alquilóxi, e R~ 3~ é C~ 1~-C~ 6~ alquila, são obteníveis em rendimentos altos pela adição estereo-seletiva de ésteres de ácido propiônico substituídos por R~ 3~ a benzaldeídos substituídos por R~ 1~, e R~ 2~ de fórmula R-CHO para formar ésteres de ácido 3-R-3-hidróxi-2-R~ 3~propiônico, conversão do grupo OH em um grupo de partida, eliminação regio-seletiva subseqüente para formar ésteres de ácido 3-R-2-R3-propênico e suas hidrólises para formar ácidos propênicos carboxílicos correspondentes e sua hidrogenação enantio-seletiva, em que R é (a).
