A presente invenção refere-se a um concentrado de sulfeto inoculado que compreende uma composição particulada de sulfeto contendo pirita, onde as superfícies de partícula da composição de sulfeto são revestidas com uma mistura microbiana. A invenção também se refere ao método de lixiviação em bioheap de um minério de sulfeto onde a acidez e a temperatura da pilha são aperfeiçoadas. O concentrado 14 é misturado através de um minério particulado a ser lixiviado 16; e o minério misturado 18 é empilhado em uma pilha 20 que é lixiviada com um líquido de irrigação a fim de recuperar os valores contidos no concentrado e minério.
